Logistik Hub
Behind the simple word “logistics” lies a diverse and complex world that remains mostly invisible to many people. For the Hafenmuseum Bremen, we developed a new section of the permanent exhibition “The changing port industry”. For the “Logistik Hub” (Logistics Hub), we designed a playful illustration of modern logistics processes using three exemplary goods (a car, a sneaker and a smartphone).
At so-called Choosatrons (a device which prints storylines inspired by “Choose Your Own Adventure” books), visitors were able to slip into the role of logistics professionals, in which they had to make quick decisions and react to the resulting effects. The progress of these decisions was simultaneously documented on narrow strips of paper, which visitors could then take away with them.
A projection-animated world map made it possible to trace the data and trade flows of the three goods in detail. Terms and correlations from the logistics game and the world map were explained in detail on an in-depth wall. A large touchscreen provided insights into the many different professions in logistics.
We used large fragments of real overseas containers as a visual bracket for the exhibition in the rooms of the museum, previously used as a warehouse. The bright orange container parts, marked by the traces of worldwide journeys, intuitively communicated the theme of transportation and global trade to visitors as soon as they entered the exhibition space.
